Full Description
A series of sinuous narrow banked lynchets on the south side of Yelcombe Bottom, Cerne Abbas, are visible as earthworks on Environment Agency lidar imagery [1, 2]. The features are probably lynchets of medieval origin, although they do merge with a later prehistoric field system of Iron Age to Roman date on their east side (MDO48395). Areas of ridged and ditched cultivation are also visible between the lynchets and respecting or respected by these and these might be remains of medieval ridge and furrow. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle Valleys AIM project.
