Full Description
A deep set ditched and banked curvilinear trackway or earthwork to the southeast of Cerne Abbas is visible as earthworks on 1840s aerial photographs and Environment Agency lidar imagery [1, 2]. The feature runs adjacent to an old quarry and is shown as a curvilinear earthwork on the OS 1st Edition map. It is possible that it is a trackway of post medieval date but could possibly be an older features, perhaps a hollow way or trackway of medieval or earlier origin. Sine offshoot linear banks and ditches might be part of the larger feature but could potentially be later prehistoric features associated with a wider field system recorded under MDO48134. The feature was digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle Valleys AIM project.
