Full Description
Narrow curvilinear banked features on Dickley Hill, Cerne Abbas, are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs and Environment Agency lidar imagery [1, 2]. The features align west-east and have the appearance of slightly curvilinear strip lynchets. They are located on the south side of a probable medieval strip field system (MDO48406). At their western end they meet with features associated with a later prehistoric settlement (MDO720) and a wider later prehistoric field system (MDO48415). They could be lynchets of either later prehistoric or medieval date but cannot be confidently assigned. One of the features is shown on the OS 1st Edition map where it is named as part of a 'camp', along with a linear bivallate feature that might be a trackway/linear earthwork associated with settlement MDO720. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle Valleys AIM project.
