Summary

An area of possible ridged and ditched cultivation in a field on the northwest side of Cerne Abbas is visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs. The features might possibly be the remains of medieval ridge and furrow cultivation. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle Valleys AIM project.

Full Description

An area of possible ridged and ditched cultivation in a field on the northwest side of Cerne Abbas is visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs [1]. The features might possibly be the remains of medieval ridge and furrow cultivation. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle Valleys AIM project. The features are no longer visible on current lidar imagery.
