Full Description
The remains of an extensive later prehistoric field system on Higher Hill Bottom, Cerne Abbas, are visible as earthworks on Environment Agency lidar imagery [1]. The features are a continuation of a field system recorded on the west side of Higher Hill Bottom (MDO42942) and are probably contemporary, considered likely to be of predominantly Iron Age to Roman date, with possible Bronze Age elements, and perhaps towards the eastern end, including lynchets of medieval origin. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle Valleys AIM project.
