Full Description
Two curvilinear ditched enclosures are visible to the north of Forston Higher Farm, Charminster, as cropmarks and soilmarks on aerial photographs [1, 2]. The features comprise an irregular curvilinear ditched enclosure 45m by 57m, with gaps on the southweest and east sides, possibly entrances. Just over 50m to the southwest is a second curvilinear enclosure 49m by 49m, double ditched on the north and south sides, with a small annexe on the east side and additional linear ditches to the south, one forming a partial 35m by 35m rectilinear enclosure. The features could potentially be later prehistoric in origin, perhaps of Iron Age to Roman date. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle Valleys AIM project.
