Full Description

Gunville House, advertised as 'newly erected' in 1798, is slate roofed with walls partly of ashlar and part rendered. It appears to have been built by the Chapman family in place of an old manor house which belonged to the Swaynes and some of the materials may have been taken from Eastbury on its demolition in 1782. In 1799 the house was occupied by Josiah Wedwood II, whose brother Thomas moved into the remains of Eastbury a year later. The stables 50 yards north of the house and also late 18th century, are two storeyed with brick walls and slated roofs. <2>
