Monument record MDO4925 - Iron Age or Romano-British settlement on Manor Hill, Tarrant Gunville

Air photographic evidence for possible Iron Age / Romano-British settlement. It incorporates an almond-shaped enclosure some 400 feet by 300 feet and is associated with a track which approaches it from the south and appears to lie among 'Celtic' fields.

An irregular pattern of earthworks at ST 921154 on Manor Hill, probably representing a settlement flattened by ploughing, is visible on air photographs. It incorporates an almond-shaped enclosure some 400 feet by 300 feet and is associated with a track which approaches it from the south and appears to lie among 'Celtic' fields. (ST 91 NW 23). <1-2>

Fragmentary remains of this field system can still be recognised, with field banks up to 6.0m wide and 0.4m high; also the terraceway. However, neither the enclosure nor settlement proper could be identified on the ground. <3>
