Summary

Several fishponds are marked on the OS 1st edition map under trees within Lower Gardens, Hilton. They are associated with a number of drainage ditches to the north west within Raspberry Copse. The features are considered likely to be associated with the formal gardens of Bingham's Melcombe which were laid out during the 16th century and described in record MDO1712. They are visible as earthworks on lidar imagery and were digitally recorded during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.

Full Description

An Old Flint Pit is marked on the OS 1st edition map to the east of Lower Gardens, Hilton. It is visible as earthworks on lidar imagery and was digitally recorded during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.
