Full Description
A barrow at ST 93270889 has been levelled by ploughing but is visible on the air photograph as a well defined ring ditch with a diameter of about 50 ft. <1, 2>
The probable Bronze Age round barrow referred to above is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs. The site is centred at ST 9327 0889 and is defined by a single narrow ring ditch which encloses a circular area measuring 16m in diameter, with no visible entrances. The size and shape of the enclosure suggest that it could be the plough levelled remains of a Prehistoric funerary monument such as a Bronze Age round barrow but there is no sign of any barrow mound or other internal feature such as a funerary deposit. The aerial photograph reference listed as source <1> no longer exists. <3, 3.1>
The barrow is visible as a sub-circular ring ditch cropmark 20m in diameter on aerial photographs and as a faint earthwork on Environment Agency lidar imagery [6, 7]. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
