Full Description
SY 85689765. Malthouse, probably of the 18th century, is now used as a barn and has been much altered. The plan comprises a long east-west range with a malt-kiln to the north. Inside, traces can be seen of two upper floors, now removed. (Not annotated on OS plans). <1>

Former malthouse, probably built in the 18th century, worked by the Fooke's Brewery of Milton Abbas, and abandoned circa 1870. Now a barn. Brick and flint, formerly slated but now thatched. Well head and brick footings of a cistern on the ground floor at the west. Loft with loading door at west and box chute with exterior shutter at east. Lateral kiln at north-west, open brick hearth, iron grid to carry kiln tiles. <3>

'(18) Malthouse (8569765), 150 yds. S. of the foregoing, is probably of the 18th century; it is now used as a barn and has been much altered. The plan comprises a long E.-W. range, with a malting kiln to the N., at the W. end. Inside, traces can be seen of two upper floors, now removed; the first floor was only 5 ft. above the ground floor. The floor of the kiln is of perforated bricks supported on iron beams.'
