Monument record MDO5311 - Ring-ditch with cremation burial, Quarleston Farm, Winterborne Stickland

A small pit containing cremated human bone mixed with charcoal and burnt flint, interpreted as probable pyre debris. The bone represented parts of an adult. The feature was not fully excavated, owing to the constraints of the evaluation exercise during which it was found, but the excavators felt that the mixed nature of the deposit suggested this was a pyre debris dump rather than a burial. This feature was thought to be prehistoric, and most likely Bronze Age, in date. A subsequent excavations revealed a ring-ditch. This and the pit were interpreted as the remains of a Bronze Age round barrow.
