Full Description
Many Mesolithic flint implements have been found on Handley Common in an area centred at ST 979174 by Martin Green and Barry Lewis. The finds include 14 convex scrapers, 13 core-trimming flakes and about 2 dozen waste flakes. A small tranchet axe and a barbed-and-tanged arrowhead were also found. <1-2>

'Handley Common, ST 979174. This is a rich site and up to the time of writing the following artifacts have been found: 1 small tranchet axe, 4 micro-cores, 14 convex scrapers, 1 end-scraper, 1 side scraper, 1 carinated scraper on a chunky flake, 13 core-trimming flakes, 1 knife, 6 retouched flakes and about two dozen waste flakes. A large pebble has been trimmed into a chopping tool, with a bifacial retouch and a thick corticated butt; a microlith with oblique blunting at the bulbar end and across the base (form C1) has been broken anciently but is still recognisable.'
