'Medieval sherds from near the Chickerell Road, Weymouth; SY(30)/666785. D.C.M. 1955.39. A quantity of medieval sherds, and four flakes of local chert, were found in the clay between 18 ins. and 2 ft. down by a Weymouth builder, Mr. H. F. Hardy, in digging foundations for a new house, 31 Hardy Avenue. Apart from side and base fragments (none of them thumbed down) of brown, grey and reddish sandy ware, a few pieces with traces of greenish glaze and several of whitish ware with patchy deep green glaze, the more closely dateable sherds are from pans and cooking pots of unglazed sandy ware of 12th century type like those from Southwell, Portland. A long-cross penny was, I understand, found at the next house to the west.' and Note 3 'Proc., 72 (1950), p. 85.'
