Summary

Three inhumations burials were excavated at Pilkington Tiles Ltd, Hamworthy, in 1974. One burial had hobnails and joining sherds of a fourth century AD bowl were found nearby, which may be the disturbed remains of a grave good.

Full Description

Three extended inhumation burials were excavated on the Pilkington Tiles site in 1974. These were all aligned roughly NE-SW. Two of the graves contained possible coffin nails. One burial had hobnails. There was no direct dating evidence for the burials, but several joining sherds of a 4th century New Forest colour-coated bowl were found near by and may represent a disturbed grave good. <3>
