Small hoard of thirty-four 3rd century Roman coins (Antoninians), unearthed in May 1936. [SZ 1699026]. <1-3>

The above were almost certainly a `plant from the large hoard found at Dorchester on the same day (May 11th 1936). <4>

Roman coins found in 1936. <5-13> I am informed by Lt. Col Drew that these coins were removed by one of the workmen from the hoard of 22,000 uncovered at Dorchester. This person, apparently panicking, buried them at Poole. <6>

Roman coins found A.D. 1936 <7>

H.P.Smith agrees with Drew's statement in as much as this is not an archaeological site. <8>

Coins found listed as :- Gordian 3 (18), Philip 1 (5), Otacilia (2), Philip 2 (3), Trajan Decius (1), Estrucilla (3), Trebonianus Gallus (1), & Valerian 1 (1). <9>

"The provenance of thirty four Antoniniani (in Poole Museum) stated to have been dug up as a hoard in 1936 in allotments at Baiter (018902) is doubtful. The series resembles that of the Dorchester hoard found at the same time." <10>
