Monument record MDO6825 - Tatnam Well, Sterte, Poole

The Well or Conduit at Tatnam is first mentioned in 1497. It was a large circular well about six metres in diameter. In the early nineteenth century it was surrounded by brickwork and iron fencing. It was demolished in the later twentieth century.

The Well or Conduit at Tatnam is first mentioned in 1497. Licence was obtained for improvements in 1542. It is now surrounded by brickwork and iron fencing of the early 19th century, and is known as Old Tatnam Well. <1>

(SZ 01329197) Tatnam Well is a large circular well measuring 6.0m. in diameter, full of water, but apparently disused. It is preserved by Poole Waterworks and is surrounded by modern brick walling and iron railings. A plaque on the wall states that the well was constructed by the inhabitants of Poole in 1542. <2>
