‘THE STOUR VALLEY GRAVELS PROJECT 1987 INTERIM REPORT
Excavations on behalf of Poole Museums Service at the Moortown site recommenced from June 1987 to January 1988. Three main phases of activity were identified:
An area of Deverel-Rimbury Bronze Age ditches and pits extended west from the site of a cremation urn excavated in 1986. A rare cylindrical clay loom-weight of Bronze Age date was found but the pottery has yet to be examined.’

‘THE STOUR VALLEY GRAVELS PROJECT – 1988 INTERIM REPORT
… Moortown. Removal of a modern soil storage bank allowed further investigation of the bronze age settlement area (Watkins 1987). An interrupted ditch was excavated producing a barbed and tanged arrowhead. There was also a Neolithic phase indicated by four elongated pits, one of which produced a considerable quantity of narrow blade flintwork.
Similar flints were found in association with ‘south western’ neolithic pottery at the neolithic pottery at the Neolithic settlement site excavated in 1984 (Horsey and Jarvis 1984). The scheduled removal of another soil storage bank in the summer of 1989 will allow further investigation of this 1984 site.’
