‘Doddings Farm, formerly called Doddingsbere, the name is thought to be of Saxon origin … A watermill existed Doddings as long ago as 1086 when it is referred to in the Domesday survey of that year, and doubtless there were others in the parish at that time, but as the manor was royal demesne no details are given.’
