Summary

A low circular mound is visible as an earthwork and a cropmark on aerial photographs of The Warren. It is considered possible this could be the remains of a late prehistoric round barrow. A hollow extending from its south-east side towards its centre may be the result of excavation.

Full Description

B - SY 79278089. A round barrow, probable bowl, 36ft diameter x 31/2ft high in a similar position to A and earlier than the adjacent Celtic field lynchet. Spoil from a central excavation has been thrown to the south. (Not listed by Grinsell or marked on OS plans). <1>

'B' SY 79288089. A low near-circular mound, diameter 21.0m. By 17.0m. Height 0.3m., conspicuous in that it is virtually barren of grass, in contrast to the well-grassed slopes around it. It merges with the hill-slope on the uphill side. The excavation trench is still visible as a crop mark. Surveyed at 1:2500 on MSD. <3>

A low circular mound, approximately 10.5m in diameter, is visible as an earthwork <5> and a cropmark <6> on aerial photographs of The Warren. It is considered possible this could be the remains of a late prehistoric round barrow. A hollow extending from its south-east side towards its centre may be the result of excavation. A similar feature is located 38m to the north (MDO7252). This feature was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset). It is not visible on the most recent comprehensive aerial images available to the project.
