Full Description
A lime kiln recorded as ‘old limekiln’ on the second edition (1900-2) Ordnance Survey map. The date of this kiln is not known but it is most likely to be late nineteenth century. The site was visited in 1992-93 by Peter Stanier, who recorded that very little (1-19%) of the structure survived in poor condition. It was not possible to determine what type of kiln construction this was. (1)
An extractive pit probably associated with the lime kiln is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of the 1940s. The pit measures approximately 53 m by 38 m and is centred at SY 79777 81459. (2) This feature was digitally plotted as part of the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
