Full Description
<1> Cox, P W and Cotton, J, 1995, Archaeological Evaluation of an area of Proposed Ball Clay Extraction at Hawk Post, East Creech, Dorset. January 1995 (Unpublished document). SWX8495.
‘In the northern 10 m of the trench, a well defined, curving ditch segment was recorded, typically 0.80 m. wide and 0.30 m deep. This ditch, (41), is elsewhere referred to as the “ring ditch”, as measurements suggest the full extent would be circular. Feature 40 is a similarly profiled ditch, projecting from the inner SW arc of 41. Both 40 and 41 2343 filled by a very dark brown humose silty sand. On the basis of pottery found in the fill (see FINDS, section 5), the ditches are thought to be Bronze Age in date.’
