Summary

A circular mound is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of fields to the west of Woodyhyde Farm. It is considered likely to be the remains of a Bronze Age round barrow. In 1970 this monument was reported as being around 61 feet in diameter with a mound about 3½ feet high, spread and irregular.

Full Description

A mound, very distorted and ill-defined due to ploughing, which at present is approx. 20.0m. Diameter and maximum height of 0.6m. No trace of a ditch. <2>

SY 97148059. Bowl barrow, 24 paces diameter and 4 1/2ft high. <3>

SY 97148059. Mound, possible bowl barrow, about 61ft diameter and 3 1/2ft high although spread and irregular. <4>

SY 972806. Round barrow 500 yards north of Afflington Farm. Scheduled. <5>

A bowl barrow, spead NW/SE by ploughing, and now with diameters of 25m by 20m. It is situated on slight hillock with which it merges and the height of the mound is approximately 0.5m. From a distance a dark soil mark around the mound may represent a ditch, but this cannot be distinguished close to in the ploughed ground. Surveyed at 1:2500 on OS plan. The D.O.E. N.G. Reg obviously applies to this barrow. <7>

A circular mound, approximately 13.3m in diameter, is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of fields to the west of Woodyhyde Farm, Corfe Castle <10>. It is considered likely to be the remains of a Bronze Age round barrow. This feature was digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck mapping project.
