Monument record MDO7705 - Late prehistoric round barrow, Farm Heath, East Stoke

A bowl barrow situated on a small knoll overlooking the Piddle Valley to the north. The barrow, which was recorded by the Royal Commission of the Historical Monuments of England in 1970, has a mound composed of earth, sand and turf, with maximum dimensions of 12 metres in diameter and 0.6 metres in height. The mound is surrounded by a ditch from which material was quarried during the construction of the monument. The ditch has become infilled over the years, but will survive as a buried feature 1.5 metres wide. Scheduled.

A circular mound, approximately 13.3m in diameter, is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of Farm Heath, East Stoke <9>. It is considered possible this could be the remains of a Late Neolithic or Bronze Age barrow. This feature was digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project. It is one of a large group of potential late prehistoric barrows situated at this location (see also MDO7701-05 and MDO30236-41).
