Find Spot record MDO7786 - Neolithic axehead, Dullar Farm, Lytchett Matravers

Neolithic axe-head 5.4" x 1.8" ground and polished. Found on Dullar Farm, Sturminster Marshall (SY 943981). Now on show in Dorset County Museum (1908). <1>

Miss V.M. Chandler,of Dullar Farm, could offer no information upon this axe, but it is one of a number of Neolithic finds made at Dullar Farm during the last 50 years. The axe, of flint, is still exhibited at the DCM. <2>

‘Miss V. M. Chandler of Dullar Farm has presented to the Museum three implements found by her in 1951 and 1952 … c) Flint hammer-stone ploughed up in the Cow Leas E. of Dullar Farm buildings, near the S. E. corner of the reservoir at about nat. grid ref. SY(30)/94489805. The hammer-stone is a slightly flattened ball, diameter c. 2½ ins., and the whole of the surface, except for a very small portion of the original flaked surface, is pitted by use.’
