Full Description

B (SY 9186 9801) and C (SY 9177 9804) are two flat topped mounds, average 25.0m. diameter, 0.5m. high, situated on a south eastern slope and in ornamental pasture. The surrounding ground is slightly uneven. Two possible bowl barrows. <1>

The four features are correctly described in Auth 3. By the way in which the slopes of 'B' 'C' and 'D' merge into the surrounding slopes they are probably natural. 'A' is almost certainly the feature referred to in Auth. 1 though badly mutilated the abrupt junction of its slopes with the surrounding slopes makes the mound appear artificial. In view of the proximity of 'B' 'C' & 'D' however, 'A' too may be natural. One possible Bowl Barrow and three probable natural features. <2>

'A' and 'E' in woodland, the other probable barrows are in arable. 'A', 'B', 'C' and 'E' surveyed and 'D' resurveyed at 1:2500 on M.S.D. SY 91779804. Probable bowl (?) barrow, diameter 25.0 metres approximately, height 0.7 metres. Ploughed. No visible ditch. <3>

A ring ditch is visible at this location on air photographs taken July 25th 2001. Up to 30 metres in diameter, the southern part of the ditch is obscured by a field boundary. It is unclear from the photographs if anything of the mound has survived a further 20 years of ploughing. <4>
