Full Description
A gun battery is shown on Bell hill and is called ‘hill battery’ on the 1859 map. It appears as a building with its longest side fronting the sea with a short wing at each end turned slightly inland. The number of guns within the battery in 1859 is unknown. The sit is no longer traceable . It lies close to the site of the 1940’s battery and has probably been obscured by this development. (1)
The remains of the battery are shown on the first epoch Ordnance Survey map of 1886 (2)
