Full Description

A possible barrow, found and reported by Mr Therley in December 1980 due north of known barrows and 20-40 yards outside the wood clump. (Approx: SY 680942). <1>

On the western pasture slope of Wood Hill at SY 67969422, there are the remains of a probable barrow. The circular flinty mound measures 16.4 metres in diameter and 0.9 metres high on the north-west, on which side and in the top, it has been extensively dug away.
Surveyed at 1:2500 on MSD. <2>

A curvilinear mound, 11m across, is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs. This is the possible site of a Bronze Age barrow. <3>

Trust for Wessex Archaeology, 1986, Dorset Barrow Survey (Index). SDO134.

‘Visible as a faint rise in permanent pasture with cattle grazing when visited. The barrow does not appear to have been ploughed, nor does the surrounding field in rough grass with nettles and thistles. A good position for a barrow at the top of the NW facing slope with a view up the Cerne Valley – (41) and (42) share the same hill. The mound has been gutted, apparently by antiquarian excavation, there is a large hollow to ground level at its centre. The original barrow survives as a circular bank approximately 5m wide. 7/5/D.’
