(SZ 02107990) Two rough flint picks found near here by J. Bowerman (owner) Godlingston Farm. <1>

A Mesolithic flint industry has been shown to exist in several fields belonging to Godlingston Manor Farm including:

(i) 'Fuzz Field' - SZ 02127988. A pick, 6 inches long and a non-tranchet axe, 6.5ins long were found some yers ago (see Authy <1>)

(ii) 'Big Meadows' not located but adjacent to 'Fuzz Field', has an area containing very tiny chips of waste flint and may be a knapping site.

(iii) 'Lower Meadow', not located but on the side of the stream to 'Fuzz Field', yielded a small tranchet axe.

(iv) 'Top Sand Pits' - SZ 015806. A pick with point to one side was found.

(v) 'Knappy Field' (not located) was in 1970 found to contain a prolific flint industry. <2>

A series of sites on Godlingston Manor Farm (not specified but undoubtedly including those in Authy <1>) have produced a large number of Mesolithic flints including tranchet axes, cores blades/flakes, scrapers and gravers. In J Bowerman Collection. <3>
