Full Description

Keith Jarvis excavated a small trial excavation at East Anglia Building Society car park, High Street, Christchurch, during 1977 (site X16), The results were subsequently published as a short note in DNHAS monograph 5 (Jarvis 1983).

The excavations revealed an undated ditch 2.4m wide and 0.6m deep and aligned roughly E-W. This alignment is at variance with most boundaries in the area but this may simply indicate a ditch which is turning. Another possibility is that the ditch is related in some way to medieval ditch A.
