Type and Period (2)
Full Description
A bowl barrow; diameter 17 paces, height 5 ft. (2)
A bowl barrow, 14.5m diam., and 1.0m high in fair condition with firs and stumps on it. No visible ditch. (3)
No change. Published 1:2500 correct. (4)
The barrow is visible as a 12.5m by 14.5m banked sub-circular mound on 1940s aerial photographs and current Lidar imagery (5 and 6). The OS 1st Edition map records the remains of a post medieval watchtower at this location (7). Whether this indicates that the feature is a post medieval mound or a barrow re-used as a watchtower is unknown.
The earthwork is under tree cover and not visible on a 2014 VAP (8).
The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
