Full Description

'(9) Cultivation remains. Little is known of the open fields of the parish. There were certainly an East and a West Field (Tithe Map 1844) but most of the parish was already enclosed by 1819, when what little remained of the formerWest Field was finally enclosed (Award and Map, 1819, D.C.R.O.). Ridge-and-furrow, probably of the old West Field, remains in Dewlish Park (768972).
Evidence of temporary cultivation beyond the open fields is found in the form of ridge-and-furrow up to 6 yds. Wide on Whitelands Down (767986) and from 7 yds. To 9 yds. Wide on South Down (781968)'.
