Full Description

Lyme Regis [NAT] (1) Lyme Regis is first mentioned in 1284 when a charter from Edward I created a free borough with merchant guild and other privileges. In 1285 another charter was granted confirming and amplifying that of 1284. (2) Lyme Regis is recorded as 'Lym/Lime' in the Domesday Book. (3) A prescriptive market is recorded in Lyme Regis from 1220. (4)
