Summary

Public park covering an area of 45 hectares. Work started on the park in 1888 following a design by the Borough Surveyor, John Elford. Landscaping was by Robert Veitch and Son of Exeter and J C Rigler of Poole. Planting was by Mr Ingram in October 1888 and by David Stewart in October 1889. The park was opened to the public on 18th January 1890. Additions to the park took place in the 1920s. During the mid 20th century the park entrance layouts were altered. A restoration of the park took place in the late 20th century.
