Monument record MWX1493 - Torpedo Station, Portland Breakwater

Torpedo Station used during both World Wars. Structures probably associated with this torpedo station are visible on aerial photographs of the south-east end of Portlands's North Eastern Breakwater. Site of a World War One torpedo station located on 'A' Head, North Eastern Breakwater, Portland Breakwater. During World War One it had two 18 inch torpedo tubes which were operational from 1915 until 1918. The torpedo station was also in operation from 1940 until 1945 during World War Two.

Structures probably associated with this torpedo station are visible on aerial photographs of the south-east end of Portlands's North Eastern Breakwater <4-5>. These features were digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset). They are still visible at this location on the most recent comprehensive aerial images available to the project.
