Full Description

The CRESCENT was bound from Salonica, having called at Falmouth en route. (LL.12 and 15.03.1793) Date of Loss Qualifier: A (1) `...a prize to the 5th rate 36 gun HMS CRESCENT. (2) Weymouth March 18th: Yesterday was driven on shore near Portland Castle a French brigantine, burthen about 90 tons, laden with salt, bound from Rochelle to Rouen, a prize to the CRESCENT frigate; the cargo will be entirely lost and the ship has received considerable damage. The crew are all saved. (3)

The building date for this vessel is an estimate based on an average age at wrecking of twenty years. This average is derived from those vessels wrecked on the Dorset coast whose age at wrecking is known.
