`The THOMAS AND ANN, Jordan, from London to Plymouth, foundered off Portland on Wednesday night. Crew saved. (2) The previous issue of LL. describes the weather conditions on the south coast on that Wednesday: `A most violent gale of wind from the southward was experienced on Wednesday morning. The building date for this vessel is an estimate based on an average age at wrecking of twenty years. This average is derived from those vessels wrecked on the Dorset coast whose age at wrecking is known.
