Full Description
Rope walk marked on 1888 Ordnance Survey 1:500 map. This shows a long narrow building open on the east side, running down the western side of the plot, with a small building running full width of plot to the south and another small building at the north end on the west side. The open-sided building is probably a covered ropewalk. There may have been an open rope walk on the east side of the plot. (1)
The rope walk appears to have gone out of use by the end of the 19th century as it is not shown on the 1902 Ordnance Survey map and the houses of Asker Terrace have been built in the middle of the plot (2).
Rope Walk. This appears to have been an open ropewalk originally, extending southwards from behind the buildings on the south side of South Street. It ran down to the north bank of the folly mill headrace. The line of the walk is still evident. Later developments appear to occupy the same plot. A brick wall with pilasters separates this plot from ropewalk number 75. (3)
