Full Description
A sequence of beach deposits sealed by reclamation material that supported structures from the early 16th century to modern times was revealed in a rescue excavation near Poole Quay in 1986-7. The beach had evidence of activity from the Iron Age/Romano British period, including possible salt production, to the medieval period. The most significant evidence of the use of the beach was in the medieval period, and a timber store for a medieval boatyard containing 62 ships timbers was recorded (1-4)
