Monument record MWX3349 - Flint scatter, Land off Reap Lane, Southwell, Portland

Flint and chert artefacts collected during field walking (1)

876 pieces of worked flint and chert recovered, primarily chert. Presence of small blades indicates an earlier date (Mesolithic or Early Neolithic). Large quantity of waste and presence of knapping and retouch chips indicates that the material was being worked on site (2)

Worked flint and chert, mostly recovered during field walking, overall character suggests an earlier prehistoric date, leaf arrowhead indicating Early Neolithic component (3)

A scatter of flint and chert recovered from easement. There were no noticeable concentrations of material visible during a walk-over. The occurrence of tools however, was greater at the eastern end of the site.(4)
