Full Description

Early Bronze Age: Beaker pottery found in five features: two pits containing single sherds; a steep sided sub oval pit defined by a dense spread of burnt flint; a small steep sided pit; and a pit containing over fired and distorted pottery interpreted as mis-fired wasters. A rare EBA ceramic pulley object was found in an LBA pit.
Middle Bronze Age: 28 features, including two linear features, were excavated and MBA pottery was retrieved from five charcoal pits (WX3516)
Late Bronze Age: 17 features including a charcoal pit were of LBA date. Four pits, wider and deeper that average, contained large amounts of pottery: one contained EBA ceramic pulley; one storage pit with vertical sides containing parts from at least seven vessels, hearthstone querns, shale, worked and burnt flint and large quantities of hearthstone; another contained thick deposits of raw and partially fired clay, large amounts of hearthstone and limestone and the remains of at least seven vessels; the fourth pit contained at least five vessels. Within a small hearthstone pit a bronze gouge had been placed upright with wood preserved inside it, interpreted as a 'special' or ritual deposit (1)
