Full Description

Corfe Castle Parish covers some 10,400 acres and is one of the largest in Dorset. It extends across the middle of the Isle of Purbeck from Poole Harbour to the sea between Wareham and Swanage. The parish church of St. Edward, King and Martyr, stands in Corfe Castle village. (1)

Corfe is first mentioned in 1268 when it was represented by its own jury at the eyre. From 1306 onwards it was taxed at the urban rate. (2)
