Full Description

Two sand pits dug into Hunger Hill marked on the Ordnance Survey 25-inch maps epochs 1-3. The pits were accessed separately from Lilluput Road. The eastern pit had become disused by the 1920s. (1-3)
Two late post medieval or early modern pits are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of 1949 to the north of Lilliput Road, partly in the area of those marked on the 1st ed OS map and partly adjacent to the east of them. The pits are located on Branksome Sand Formation. The western pit measures 39 m by 20 m and the larger, eastern pit measures 164 m by 134 m. (4) The site is now covered by housing. This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
