A post medieval sand pit is marked at this location on the first edition OS map (1).

A pit is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of the northern part of Holton Heath, Wareham St Martin (2). It is considered likely to be the remains of the post medieval sand pit described above. This feature was digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project. It is not visible on the most recent comprehensive aerial photographs available to the project.
