Summary

In 1937 the Glasgow went aground one and a half miles from the northern entrance to Portland Harbour. The ship was later refloated and moved to an anchorage in Portland.

Full Description

At about 1405 the Glasgow went aground one and a half miles from the harbour entrance and the destroyer HMS Winchester went to the assistance of the cruiser along with the tug Pilot, which arrived at 1440. The ship was refloated at 1515 and moved to an anchorage in Portland. (1,2)

The building date for this vessel is an estimate based on an average age at wrecking of twenty years. This average is derived from those vessels wrecked on the Dorset coast whose age at wrecking is known.
