A Royal Navy dumb barge that sank off Portland Bill in 1956 (1)

The only detail about this vessel is that she was a 'lighter under tow, which broke away and sank in 30m of water. Decca position (SW Chain) Red (G) 7.46; Purple (F) 60.94.

Was charted by the UK Hydrographic Office as C 1, entire wreck at 50°27'.702 N, 002°24'.612 W; but the position was amended to DEAD in 2003 though without examination of the site. (2) The location of this wreck therefore remains unknown. - UKHO number 18575

No other informatiom about the vessel could be found.

The building date for this vessel is an estimate based on an average age at wrecking of twenty years. This average is derived from those vessels wrecked on the Dorset coast whose age at wrecking is known.
