Summary

A Roman trumpet brooch was found near Maiden Plantation in 1932. The most common type of Roman brooch found in Britain, it derives its name from the the trumpet shape of the brooch head which contained and protected the spring. The find is in Dorset County Museum, Accession Number 1934-7-2.

Full Description

A 1st Century AD bronze Trumpet Brooch was found 20yds from Maiden Plantation whilst laying electric mains on the Tank Corps Gunnery Range, in 1932, at a depth of 18. Classification of the brooch is Collingwood's Group R. Now in the Dorchester Museum. (Maiden Plantation centred at SY 85208084). (1)

Enquiries at Lulworth Camp revealed no information relating to this brooch. Area could not be investigated - active range. (2)

The brooch is in Dorset County Museum, Accession. No 1934-7-2. (3)
