Full Description

Another of the `islands within the harbour also appears to have had a chapel in medieval times. In 1535 the island is described as:- The island of St. Helen in Purbeck, and the inference is that a chapel had been built thereon by the monks of Milton Abbey, the island coming to be named after the patron saint. It is called St. Elins Insul. on Ralph Treswells map of the Isle of Purbeck (1585-86). The name Green Island is relatively modern. <1>

No further information gathered during field investigation regarding this alleged chapel or its site. <2>
