Abstract/Summary

‘An evaluation for a proposed development on land at the former Abbey Primary School, Horsecastles…was carried out by AC Archaeology during October 2003’ Five machine-trenches were excavated totalling 55m in length and 1.6m wide. A series of early medieval to 13th century field drains and ditches were identified in the SE part of the site. These relate to the expansion of the town into the Horsecastles area at this time. Modern features only were recorded over the rest of the site. The central and NE portion may have been truncated and levelled in the construction of the playing field.
