Abstract/Summary
In December 2001 Niall Oakey carried out archaeological observations of geotechnical testing associated with a proposal to construct an astro-turf pitch in the grounds of Milton Abbey School, Milton Abbas, Dorset (NGR: ST 7979 0212).
The results indicated that construction of existing tennis courts had involved deep disturbance of existing deposits. No archaeological deposits were recorded within 1.00m of the modern land surface. Considerable disturbance had also taken place to the west of the tennis courts. Borehole results showed that a subsoil survived to the south and south-west of the tennis courts, but no evidence was recovered to suggest that this had been formed or affected by human activity.
